Our Lady of Lourdes (or the Immaculate Conception of Lourdes or, more simply, Our Lady of Lourdes) is the name with which the Catholic Church venerates Mary, following the apparitions she had in 1858 to Bernadette Soubirous.

The name of the place refers to the French municipality of Lourdes. In whose territory, between 11 February and 16 July 1858, the young Bernadette Soubirous, a fourteen-year-old local peasant girl, reported having witnessed eighteen apparitions of a “beautiful lady” in a grotto not far from the small suburb of Massabielle.

A statue of the Madonna was placed in 1864 on the site indicated by Bernadette as the location of the apparitions. Over time, an imposing sanctuary developed around the grotto of the apparitions.

A significant movement of pilgrims subsequently grew around the place of worship. It is estimated that over seven hundred million people have visited the Sanctuary of Lourdes.
